Heart The wish that is MOST impossible to get granted

Hello all! This will be a long shot. Some of you know that I make cloth diapers and baby slings. I actually started just last month but last week I was thinking that this DREAM business will about to end....and I am really sad and hurt that this is another venture that I had to help my husband provide for our family's needs. Sad but true, I do not have enough capital to continue this little business.

I know this is the MOST impossible wish that you find on Tree of Wishes but I just want to put it here so I could at least ease what I am feeling.

I am wishing that I have $500 to continue this little business. I know this is a lot of money to wish for....but they say dream big, wish big. :-) I will use the money to get a serger (mine broke and cannot be fixed) and bring my sewing machine to the place where I bought it to get fixed because it is acting up lately too. We bought these second hand or third hand I guess. LOL The rest of the money I will buy fabric. The stores here that sells fabric has only one roll of fabric per prints. I did purchase 5 yards each print but after it was used, I went back to get another batch and I was told there's none left from that roll. I wish I could buy enough. People asks me what prints I have (this is for the baby slings and cloth diapers) and I always tell them that I will go downtown to see what I can find. It is also hard for me to go downtown each time someone orders because we live an hour from there and I have one baby that needs me most of the time. Can't leave him at home with hubby since he is breastfeed so I think it will be best for me to get all what I needed.

See this is the most impossible wish here......but I was a believer that God will provide for our needs. I can't express how much I really wish that I can materialize my dream business. This is all I can do, no work for someone who hasn't finished college here. Please pray for this to come true. Please I am begging........

Thank you all guys!!!

Desperate Mom,

I just wanted to tell you that I am so proud of you! Starting a business is a huge step, but Hon, a step in the right direction.

If I can offer some advice, (and I'm sorry that I can't offer any monetary help as we have winter on our doorstep and my credit will be used just to pay our bills over next few months)

Each bigger city has a "sewing" district. I would start by going there and checking the prices of fabric. Talk to the owners and try to set an arrangement with them for a really good deal if you buy only from them. DO NOT shop for fabric at your local chain (ours is Fabricland here in Canada) they have retail prices. You need to get access to wholesale. Remember, that most businesses are struggling today, so they will be more likely to accommodate you. Ask for volume pricing on the least amount that you have to purchase, if price offered is not what you need, move on to the next store. (We have one street with just fabric stores in Toronto and one in Hamilton)

In that same "sewing district" you will find a little store that sells commercial sewing machines. Shop there and again don't pay the sticker price. There are not many people who need a commercial serger. (You do need one, don't waste your time and money on one that is not commercial) I was able to get a Juki straight stitch with the table in excellent condition for $600.00 My double top stitch was purchased brand new at the retailer for less than half price because I walked in during a store closing sale!

You can also post an ad online that you are looking for a serger (be specific about what you want), you have no idea what deals you can find out there. (I was amazed to find a brand new rowing machine for $300 -retail $1200.00 - because the guy was moving and had no room for it in his new apartment)

When shopping for fabric get the best quality you can afford, but limit yourself to not more than 4 designs (more choice - more difficult to make the decision on the customer side) Try to get yourself as much fabric in each design as you can. Get the entire bolt if you can get it for a great price.

Get yourself a WEBSITE and post fabric sample pictures on it. Here is the scoop about the Generation Y (Baby Boomers, than GenX, followed by GenY) in 2010 there will be more of them than BabyBoomers. Well... guess who will be having babies? Those kids becoming adults now, are glued to their computers, they do everything online. You need a website to reach them. This is the future.

I'm sorry to go on and on like that... And again I'm sorry that I can't help on the money front. I wish you all the best, and hope that if you need anything else in regards to this, you will let me know.

HUGS!

Oh Humber I really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much for taking time to write in details.

I already have a store where I will be getting my fabric. This is owned by a Chinese family and we all know that Chinese give out big discounts if you buy in wholesale. :-) I have spoken to the owner and they will be giving me 20% discount. But I am really sad and like giving up because I cannot buy by the bolt. I wish I could.

About sewing machines...and serger....along that street are machines being sold in the sidewalk. Those are surplus or used from Japan. They are still good as new and brands are Juki, Singer, Brother and I forgot the others. Sewing machine are sold around $150 and sergers (three threads) are around $250. I am putting $100 for the fabric and even how much I tried to find that money...I couldn't find where to get it. I have tried selling stuffs at home but that just covers our basic needs. My husband has a job but his earnings are barely enough too. We are paying off huge debt from my baby's hospital bills last August.

I posted an ad on the internet last Saturday and I began getting inquiries but I could get them all to order since they are hesitant to pay me online before the products be shipped to them. I understand why they are like that....it is because I am still making a name and earning the people's trust. Now I am relying on the orders of the people near me because we can meet up downtown for the payment and delivery. It just makes me feel sad that I am getting orders yet I do not have enough fabric at hand. I used our money food when I started and I have to get it back or else my kids will starve.

But anyway here I am still wishing this most impossible wish...but I know that God will provide our needs and that he will use some people out there to be an instrument. When that happens, I will be very grateful and I will pay it forward when I am back on my feet. I just need to be patient and not loose hope.

You are so nice and kids Humber. I am so happy that you gave me ideas and advices that are of big help to my business. God bless you!!!!!

I do set up an online store but I am still in the process of putting everything in place.

love,
Carol

We have Craiglist here in three cities in the Philippines AUNTMO but ours in Davao City is dormant I guess since the last time I checked on it. But will try to check on it again. What people are using here is a free online advertising site that is called Davaosale and that is where I got some orders from. Thanks for your comment, means so much to me.

Thanks so much Tina! I keep on forgetting your username. LOL I am good and the rest of the family. :-) I hope and pray you and your family are having a wonderful Monday there.

Can I be both very happy and be very sad? It's because I got a call about consigning my cloth diapers at the bazzar next week. It is the biggest Christmas bazzar and that will be my chance to penetrate in the market.....so happy too that she liked my stuffs. But then this brings great sadness too as you know I can't fabric. Please please pray that God will provide and send fabric my way. Even just enough for a 5 dozens of cloth diapers. I think that will be enough to bring there. What fabric I have here are good for a dozen diapers only. I desperately need do to this but it will be only possible with God's miracle.

love,

Carol
